I have began using 3DSmax which seems to be another progra which is quite widely used, so going through tutorials and doing some objects to get a workflow going while learning it. It seems like a very simple software to use compared to that of Maya and also has a much friendlier interface. Picking it up isn't too much of  a problem, just need to become used to controls and where things are -seems the main problem...

Digital painting

I have been going back to doing some digital painting, something that I would like to become better at. Drawing on paper is easy enough, drawing on computer is slightly different. One thing that i wouldn't mind doing would be concept art but that's for later here something I'm working on at the moment. Doesn't take too much of a guess to work out who it is, unless you haven't seen the show in which case...shame on you...

Finished... I haven't put all the detail of his clothes in, was a lot of it, but looks good enough, the face is all that matters hehe

final Model

Well the end is nigh, and I am currently working on my final model, took about  two weeks to get to this stage, and decided to concentrate more on the detail of the model from the clothes to the hair. The final model is a skateboarder who carries around a stick with him. The stick is in fact a sword and his skateboard is the shield, these weapons are "ghostly" in that they take a slightly transparent form which the boy uses to fight and defend himself.

I decided to check out polycount forums to leer at other people's work. There is a thread where people create models with less then 1000 tris, so I decided to try this with a small character. Heres what I came up with. I felt it was pretty well done, and is very nice for short animations.
I am also trying out a style for the pages to represent my models with. The pages are still work in progress.

Mercenary Model

A mercenary model, again to practice my modelling speed and texturing aswell. I used ZBrush to get some more detail in the model, giving it a but more depth.
I think that it is quite well done, however some of the teture could use a bit more detail and bit more refinement.

Speed modelling

i am modelling at a quicker pace, and trying to texture faster aswell, hopefully this will be useful in future.
A mech i am modelling, and need to set out UV, then texturing. around 3 days. a more cartoony mech, which allows me to model more cartoon characters, but a chance to do some more metallic textures.

Devil Finished

Here is my Devil character finished, specular map, normal maps and texture map are all finalised. I will be adding a transparency map later to give the hair the extra depth, regardless, the lighting and rendering is also very important with scenes such as these, which will I will also be focused on but not with too much depth. I would say I'm pretty pleased with the outcome and will fit nicely into my showreel. I am deciding whether I need a background, i want to keep it simple but maybe tempted to make a backdrop. Regarless, I have been modelling a character that my friend charlie drew in class. He does very cartoony characters which is good for me to stray away from my style at times. Need to finalise some textures and need some nice textures for the outift.

I have decided to postpone my story that i have been producing. Mainly to refine the story. However I will be producing some more detailed characters and some animation tests/shorts using other characters i have created before. this is a character i am working on atm, i have concentrated on the hair, which i feel is probably the weakest aspect of all my characters.

Here is the character with what I want as base colours, once the character is posed I am putting him into Zbrush to touch up then, transfer mapped in Maya, with the textures.

Yay, so i finished one of my characters, still needs some skin painting adjustments, but shouldn't take long, regardless the other charactes will be coming along very quickly. He is missing a hat i noticed but wont be a problem.

Cop 2 WIP

I am currently working on the rig for the characters. I have been cutting some corners, using old parts of characters I made before and also the rig.
I have also been creating the environment buildings to populate the scene.
