Before man invented Fire
Here are some concpt ideas for our character, come up with some skeletal ideas, facial build up, and basic hands and feet. Thinking the cloth can cover the body so'd we wouldn't have to model the legs!

Testing Maya
Here's a scene i made quickly with a load of textures, testing Maya's capabilities...along with my laptop's. I did a wheel resting on a rock in some grass, some problems with the grass poking through the rock and the wheel. I've also done my Ipod Nano, again testing shadows and lighting.
Not the best but still n00b at rendering and textures.

The magician prt2
After having the pitch which I won by one vote... i decided to give up my pitch idea, simply because it was too complicated. Maybe another day when my CGI skills are more up to scratch... regardless I have some of the other concept art and storyboard.

Game trailers
Here are some very nice cinematic game trailers that I loved over the summer, most of them sponsored by Square Enix, and probably created by Square Enix, simply because the quality of the trailer isn't found in the actual games, not in Deus Ex at least, but amazing game regardless.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Tomb Raider

The Magician
The Magician is an idea i will pitch next week, simply a magician performs a trick, and brings up a woman from the audience and then puts her into a "magic box" and then she suffers a quick and painless death...beautiful. Hopefully I can create this in Maya, thus the simplicity of the figure.
Here are some concept art for the magician himself:

End of first year
Well the first year has ended, and after a pretty successful and fun year, I'm going to learn as much from Maya as possible. hopefully, come second year I'll hit the ground runnning. I've decided I'm going to take the CG route. In which case I'm gonna start with modelling first, can't animate without objects. Here are two models I did, the first is a random face and the second is an alien from my open brief project for the last module. I'm quite pleased with what I came up with, although there are alot of mistakes, and i need to learn hair/fur, and also where to begin sculpting ears. Regardless I like to create realistic (ish) figures rather then the cartoony type, thus the detail in the first head, but theres still a long way to go, so I better get cracking.
Decided to add some colour to the face, as you can see I find it easier to do one half first then mirror the other half. |
I decided to start adding shoulders to the head but found out it created a double face. may look okay now but once it renders it doesn't look too good. |
Alien head, the original version is below, there are a few mistakes. |

Design For animation, Guiness World Cup ad
We have began a new module, Design for animation, all about pre-production throughout animation. The brief is to create a 20 second Ident for a chosen sport for the Olympics 2012, held in London. I got football, which is a very strong subject for me so would be quite interesting for me to explore. Here is a video for the 2007 Rugby Guiness world cup ad. Very nice character design and style, and brilliant camera shots to catch the slick movement and the gameplay. It would be similar to what I would want for my Football Olympic Ident.

Flash Action Analysis (Arril Bars)
Well after a very good response at the screening here's our flash animaiton that we did for the action analysis module. I did the woman whereas Charlie did the man and the editing. Most credit goes to charlie though, he came up with the Arril ideas, I came up with the story. The flash project was to do a piece with the main focus on lip syncing, the animation especially from charlie was also important, but was icing on the cake.
The original version didn't have arril at the end, but charlie had the balls to put it in, and it worked! so here it is... enjoy!

Traditional bird flight
This is again for the action analysis module. we had to animate a bird taking off and then flying (in a cycle) and then finish off with a landing. It went quite well took some time to do but the results isn't too bad. to cut time i decided to do one wing only...
Maya Push
This is my maya push i did for the action analysis module. quite well made and quite proud of it, although there are some issues with it but very small niggles. we had to give the block a sense of weight and to go through some pushing poses, which I felt I achieved well.

Stop Motion Pull
Action analysis module, this is a stop motion piece mainly focused on pulling poses. We used a very simple figure which shows the basics of a human skeleton and joints.
